Changing The World Is Not As Easy As Changing Fashion Statements

This is a blog entry from one of my friends in LB. I decided to repost this since we have the same thoughts on some of stuff happening around us. Enjoy reading it.

-------

Different stands, different convictions. one aim, one vision. Different social groups cry out for change. They may be Christians or humanists. What are their motivations? Are they willing to break the chains of corruption, prostitution, racial discrimination, and damnation? Some just go with the flow. Some go against it. Some want change yet what they're doing is totally ironic with what they say. Some are fired and hyped up yet those passions were based on feelings and after a couple of decades, few are they who stayed strong and kept the fire burning. Neutral parties are just fed up with this battle of influence. They're confused on who will they side on.

Reaction will never be the same as action and at the same time vision and passion is not also action itself. You may have both of it. You're aware about what's in, what's not, what's happening in this world, and especially what's going on with your own world but the issue will never be about your knowledge about everything. You may try to play GOD and be all-knowing but haven't you realized that inventions wouldn't have come to existence without having a plan of action? Inventors already have the ideas, the words and concepts but it means nothing if they won't make it happen.

The battlecries are rallies and retaliation. "Let's shout out loud so that they might hear us", said the masses. Assert blah blah blah! Assertions should have nothing to do with exclamation points! Never did they put their shoes on the authorities'. Would there be anyone who would listen to a complaint delivered in a rude loud manner? If there would be that kind of person except from God, how I wish he would be my instructor or professor in my subjects! Even Moses got fed up by the Israelites' complaints so if he's indeed the humblest person in this world then who will dare to surpass his humility?

Change, change, change... Everyone desires it but not all of them do something about it. All they know is to complain. Is Gloria the main reason why are there prostitutes? There are already harlots and shrine prostitutes even before she and Julius Caesar were born. Are the government officials really responsible for every mess people are going through? The trash you see there inside your room, at the corners of your living room, under your sofas or beds, and beside your trash bins. Don't tell me that these officials are part of your family that they were the ones who made a mess in your houses. They are not omnipresent right? Drug addiction... Are these people the parents or companions of every drug addicts and drug pushers? Why them? Corruption... I admit that some of them are guilty of this but they didn't become like that in an instant. It started with the small things that largely influence the big things like cheating in school, stealing a single penny from their parents' purses, and lying with the change (sukli). Who did not do these things when they were younger? And who are still doing this? Who get kickbacks from their parents? Who does not cheat when the exam's hard enough to blow your mind off? You can't tell someone he has a booger peeking outside its territory with your mucus dripping out from your nose. This maybe gross but that's basically it.

World transformation is not a one-night stand. It is not as easy as changing fashion statements. You cannot despise the small things and move ahead and change the bigger things. It should start in you. You can't tell him to change his ways if you're still living like him. Don't be a hypocrite. You have a mind - a mind to judge what is wrong and what is right. Do not be easily influenced with what the society is telling you. They might say you're KJ or even be rejected by your so-called "friends" then so be it. If you are swayed with that weak word and that kind of rejection, you just proved yourself to be more insecure than they. You're identity can never be determined with such weak word. You don't have to do this and do that. You don't have to perform or put up an act. You don't have to be someone you're not just to feel accepted and to gratify your need of belongingness. (A friend won't mess your life. And a friend is very different from a peer or a companion. He's more than that.)

You don't have to....

If no one is going to stand up with his convictions, then who will?

Feb 21, 2007

On February 21, 2007 at the University of the Philippines Los Banos, the students of UPLB will be heard as they exercise their right to vote for their student leaders.

As a student of this university, I believe that with me is the next generation of leaders. In the campus, we see the future of the Philippines. The values that are being promoted and thriving in the campus now will be the next set of values that we  will have as a nation. Either, our generation would make it or break it.

I am personally campaigning for BUKLOD. BUKLOD exists not to topple down any party, any person or any organization. Our goal is to promote the three I's in the campus (Initiative Integrity and Involvement). We believe that in order for a nation to advance, there must be an internal transformation inside every citizen. We can always try to change the system, but if we still have the wrong set of values, we would still end up in the wrong direction. We can set up hundreds of external laws, but if our citizens carry the right values, we wouldn't waste so much of our resources to implement such external laws. It all starts within.

I believe that the people running in BUKLOD are sincere and they were not forced in any way to run for office. They must be given a chance. They have concrete projects and activities for the campus. We would want to hear the real voice of the students.

We are not just here to know something about the issues that we are facing, but BUKLOD is here to give you the right information on these things, and involve in providing solutions to these problems. Yes we have rights as a citizen, but we also have responsibilities. and yes, we can do our part to build our nation through this campus. Let us promote the value in our citizens that is is not only what we can get, but it is about what we can give. Our nation needs us right now, our campus needs us right now. In these trying times, let's get up, stop complaining and do our mark. Head knowledge is not enough. Changing the playing field is not the solution. It is every individual who will make or break our nations future.

I invite everyone to exercise their right to vote. I see a brighter nation ahead. Encourage everyone, your classmates, blockmates, dormates, orgamtes, etc. to be involved in making their mark. Your vote counts.
